When we were first getting Indywood started, we thought that social media would be the best way to get the word out about our new theater.
But through much trial and error, we discovered that the most effective way of marketing turned out to be an age-old method: Posters.
Needless to say, putting up posters takes a lot more hustle than clicking “post” on facebook. But we’ve found posters to be worth the effort. When we ask people how they found out about Indywood, almost all of them say: “I saw one of your posters.”
It’s quite possible that the effectiveness of posters is something unique to New Orleans. This is a pretty low-tech town, and people go out a lot with their eyes peeled for cool things to do.
I’m not sure if posters are worth it for folks in other cities. But for any of y’all who are looking to advertise events in New Orleans, here’s a list of the places we’ve found worth while for postering:
Cafe Rose Nicaud
Bulletin Boards on Frenchmen
Lost Love Lounge
Who Dat Cafe
Fair Grinds (The new one)
Cafa Flora (across from Mimis)
The Country Club
Neighborhood Poster Board - n rampart and clouet
The Bean Gallery
